Of the 27 million people living in Peru, more than half live in poverty without food, water, and medical attention. The slums that once haunted the United States during the great depression now haunt parts of Peru depriving their residents of clean water, proper sanitation, and medical attention.
My name is Loc Tong, I am 23 years old and a Nova Southeastern University Alumni. I am currently a student at Barry University seeking my Masters in Biomedical Science. It never occurred to me the struggle and difficulty that people who are less fortunate than us experience on a daily basis. But when Medlife reached out to me and presented how they reach out world wide to communities such as the slums of Lima, Peru; I was amazed that there are groups of people out there willing to take a small amount of time to do the labor and to provide assistance to these people and ask for nothing in return but a smile.
This January, 2015, my fellow peers and I will be taking the trip to Lima, and hope to help out in every way that we can in regards to participating in mobile medical clinics, helping to develop the slums so that it is more suitable to everyday living, and put a smile on everyones faces because they know that we took the time and are there to do the work to help them live a better and healthy life. I understand that everyone has their own lives to worry about, that is why i am taking the time and effort to do this on your behalf. I am trying to raise $2000 by January 2015. Please find it in your heart to help in a different way this holiday season. God Bless
